Cllr. Darren Johnson - Green Party councillor for Brockley Ward Darren Johnson was elected as Green Party Councillor for Brockley Ward in 2002, topping the poll ahead of Labour, Lib-Dems and Conservatives. Joining the Green Party in 1987 at the age of 20, Darren has played a very active role in Green politics over the past two decades and is now one of the party's best-known figures. At Lewisham Council Darren sits on Planning Committee and the Environment Select Committee. He is always happy to take up issues on behalf of local residents. In the council chamber he was successful in getting the council to adopt a Fair Trade policy. He has also played a leading role in opposing the closure of Ladywell Leisure Centre and putting forward alternative sites for a new school as well as fighting to save precious green spaces. In Brockley Darren successfully campaigned for a new pedestrian crossing on Brockley Road, secured improvements to the traffic calming scheme and managed to halt evictions at St Norberts Allotments. Darren is also a member of the London Assembly where he is chair of the Environment Committee and a member of the Transport Committee. He lives in Brockley and is a graduate of Goldsmiths College, New Cross, where he gained a first-class BA (hons.) in Politics and Economics. |
